Chili Sauce

Chili Sauce
  • 1 gallon ground tomatoes (or 1 1/2)
  • 8 medium onions
  • 6 green peppers
  • 2-3 red peppers, optional
  • 1 medium bunch celery
  • 1/2 gallon ground apples (or 1/3)
  • 4 cups sugar (to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp nutmeg
  • 4 Tbsp salt (to taste)
  • 1 cup vinegar (or 1 1/2)
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp oregano
Grind up tomatoes, apples, onions, peppers, and celery. Mix well.
Season to taste.
Cook until thick.
Bottle (usually in pints) Yield: approximately 10-12 pints

Megan's notes: Serve with cooked white beans or (my personal fav) on bread and gravy.  Mix with Miracle Whip to make homemade Thousand Island dressing.
