Chili Sauce
- 1 gallon ground tomatoes (or 1 1/2)
- 8 medium onions
- 6 green peppers
- 2-3 red peppers, optional
- 1 medium bunch celery
- 1/2 gallon ground apples (or 1/3)
- 4 cups sugar (to taste)
- 1 Tbsp nutmeg
- 4 Tbsp salt (to taste)
- 1 cup vinegar (or 1 1/2)
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp oregano
Season to taste.
Cook until thick.
Bottle (usually in pints) Yield: approximately 10-12 pints
Megan's notes: Serve with cooked white beans or (my personal fav) on bread and gravy. Mix with Miracle Whip to make homemade Thousand Island dressing.
